Emergence Teleradiology
Premedication Recommendation for IV Contrast
Routine:
- Prednisone 50mg orally at 12 hours prior, 6 hours prior, and time of examination
- Benadryl 50mg orally at 6 hours prior and time of exam
Emergent:
- Methylprednisolone 40mg IV 4 hours prior, time of exam, and 4 hours after exam
- Benadryl 50mg IV 1 hour prior and 4 hours after exam
Alternatively
- Hydrocortisone 200mg IV 4 hours prior, time of exam, and 4 hours after exam
- Benadryl 50mg IV 1 hour prior and 4 hours after exam
- Patient should always be discharged with a driver
- Follow up with doctor if any symptoms occur after contrast administration
- If patient has prior anaphylactic or severe contrast reaction then all exams requiring premedication should only be done in a hospital setting.
