Suspected Rib and Hip injuries

With suspected injury to the ribs recommend the following protocol to rule out fractures.

  • Obtain an AP view of the chest with 2 views of the affected ribs.
  • If patient still has pain and the study was returned with a negative report, then recommend follow up AP view of the chest and 2 views of the affected ribs in    24 hours.

With suspected injury to the hip recommend the following protocol to rule out fractures.

  • Make the Patient non-weight bearing,
  • Obtain AP view of the Pelvis with 2 views of the affected hip.
  • If patients has continued pain, keep the patient non-weight bearing, and repeat exam in 2-3 days.
  • If the report is negative and patient still has pain.  Keep Patient non-weight bearing and repeat exam in 2-3 days.
